The Sack of Venarium
"My uncle was at Venarium when the Cimmerians swarmed over the walls. He was one of the few who escaped that slaughter. I've heard him tell the tale, many a time. The barbarians swept out of the hills in a ravening horde, without warning and stormed Venarium with such fury none could stand before them. Men, women, and children were butchered. Venarium was reduced to a mass of charred ruins, as it is to this day. The Aquilonians were driven back across the marches, and have never since tried to colonize the Cimmerian country."

The Black Stone
"The priest swept up the infant with a long arm and shouting again that Name, whirled the wailing babe high in the air and dashed its brains out against the monolith, leaving a ghastly stain on the black surface. Cold with horror, I saw him rip the tiny body open with his bare brutish fingers and fling handfuls of blood on the shaft, then toss the red and torn shape into the brazier, extinguishing flame and smoke in a crimson rain, while the maddened brutes behind him howled over and over that Name. Then suddenly they all fell prostrate, writhing like snakes, while the priest flung wide his gory hands as if in triumph. I opened my mouth to scream my horror and loathing, but only a dry rattle sounded: a huge monstrous toad-like thing squatted on the top of the monolith!"

House rules
- Hit points by level
- I am cutting out the randomness in hit point progression. Each character gets the mean hit points at each level. Round up on even levels, and round down on odd levels.
- HP after massive damage failure
- Characters failing their massive damage save are not reduced to -10HP, but rather to an amount of negative hit points equal to how much they missed the save by. (Example: Roll a 15 on a DC20 and you are reduced to -5HP).
Attendance Rules
In order to join the group, you must be willing to commit Tuesday
nights on a regular basis. Regular means you put it on your calendar and
schedule around it, not through it. We all have busy, adult lives and so
everyone misses a game here and there due to unforeseen circumstances, but
there is a difference between an unusual circumstance and a low priority.
To help encourage good attendance, PCs whose players show up will receive
an automatic XP bonus just for showing up, so if you miss too often you will
advance slower than the other characters.
If you know ahead of time that you will be unable to make a game, please
give the GM advance notice. If I know a player is going to be absent ahead
of time, I can often plan a plot element around the absence. Or I may be
able to plan a one-shot adventure if attendance is low.

Tips and Recommendations
- You should change your chat color in preferences to something different than everyone else, so that chat
messages can be quickly distinguished.
- Your client name should be YOUR name, not the character's name. If you want to chat as the character select
"Chat as.." from the right-click menu. This will open up a little dialogue button on your icon.
- You can choose which image to use for the icon by right-clicking on the icon and going to current image. I
have placed several potential images for you to choose from within each icon.
- Double-clicking on the character icon in the icon toolbar at the bottom will automatically load whatever map
the character is on. If you are already on the map, it will center the map on that character.
- The dice panel has a little "+" button in the upper-right corner. Clicking that will open up more options
for your rolls. The most important options are:
- You can choose to broadcast your roll secretly to the GM
- You can append an additional bonus or penalty to your roll. This will be
for all situation-specific modifiers
- You can set a target value for the roll
- If I give you permission, you can also adjust your hit points
- You can customize the layout of kloogewerks considerably. For example, you can decide to undock or dock any
of the windows and you can choose to auto-hide windows in the preferences. I would recommend hiding the campaign
tree (the window to the far left) by using those little arrows when you don't need it.
- You can control how fast chat message disappear in the preferences. I would recommend opening a separate
chat window.
- Look at the keyboard shortcuts file as these can save you a lot of time. Here are a couple of key ones when
you have a character highlighted:
- "n" will open the character sheet in a separate tab
- "e" will allow you to edit effects - this is how to remove effects from yourself.
- "c" chat as the character
- "x" clears the "chat as.."
- backspace will undo your last move
- "1" toggles the visibility of the campaign tree
- "Control icon" will make it so that other players cannot access your character or his/her character sheet.
- The quickest way to target is to hold down control (or open apple on macs) when you have your character
highlighted.
- During combat, don't make attacks until:
- I have approved your move
- You have told me what attack you plan to make
- You can send confidential messages to the GM from the "Action" menu at the top.
